Vintage 1980s Sergio Valente Plum Wool Jacket — Size 12

A very good argument for looking beyond the jeans.

Sergio Valente may be best remembered as one of the names synonymous with the designer-denim boom, but this vintage jacket shows another side of the label. Cut from an 85% wool / 15% rayon blend in a heathered plum, it brings together strong 1980s sportswear construction with an unexpectedly easy silhouette.

A high stand collar frames the neckline, while the extended shoulder tabs and softly gathered yoke give the jacket its distinctive architecture. Full sleeves taper into fitted cuffs, and subtle gathering at the banded waist creates a cropped blouson shape. Black buttons, angled welt pockets and a deep wine-colored lining finish the piece.

And despite all that period detail, it doesn't need to be styled like a costume. Layer it over a gray hoodie, add relaxed denim, and suddenly 1980-something looks very 2026.

Curator’s Note

This one is exactly why LGV doesn't shop by decade alone. The shoulder treatment, gathered yoke and blouson shape are unmistakably vintage, but put it over a hoodie and denim and the whole thing snaps forward forty years. Good design doesn't need to be modernized. Sometimes it just needs new company.
