A striking vintage Jones New York blouse in a warm red, coral and cream geometric print. Cut in crisp 100% cotton, the design balances a clean, elongated body with beautifully engineered volume through the sleeves.

A high stand collar fastens with buttons at the shoulder, while the front closure is concealed beneath a clean overlapping placket. Light shoulder padding gives definition without the exaggerated width associated with later power dressing.

The sleeves are the standout: softly voluminous through the arm with a stitched vertical tuck running the length of the sleeve, creating a permanent raised crease and controlled sculptural shape. Finished with gathered, buttoned cuffs.

Curator's Note

The sleeve tells the story. Before the exaggerated shoulder became shorthand for 1980s dressing, designers were already experimenting with structure in subtler ways. Here, Jones New York shapes the arm with padding, controlled fullness and an unusual stitched vertical tuck that holds its line rather than relying on pressing alone.

Jones New York emerged as an important American sportswear label during the 1970s under designer Rena Rowan, and this blouse carries that period's mix of practicality and thoughtful construction beautifully. The concealed placket and restrained high neckline keep the body remarkably clean, allowing the engineered sleeve and graphic cotton to do the work.

LGV dates this piece to the late 1970s based on its label, country of manufacture, construction and comparison with documented period Jones New York/Rena Rowan designs.
